Occupational Hygiene is defined at the discipline of anticipating, recognising, evaluating and controlling health hazards in the workplace environment with the aim of protecting worker health and well-being and safeguarding the community at large.
It involves the practice of identifying hazardous agents (chemical, physical and biological) in the workplace that can lead to injury, disease or discomfort, evaluating the extent of the risk due to exposure to these hazardous elements, and the monitoring and control of those risks to prevent ill-health and injury.
We are an Occupational Hygiene Training Association (OHTA) Approved training provider offering specialist hygiene courses that promote safety and health, and foster good working practices. Our courses range from introductory through to intermediate technical training.
Why would you need training?
People in different roles need occupational hygiene knowledge and skills at different levels, these levels are described below, starting with just an awareness course and leading to tertiary qualifications.
With Certified Occupational Hygienists as well as subject matter experts to provide training, it can be assured that only highly qualified staff present all the material.
Approved to train at Foundation & Intermediate levels.
Our occupational hygiene courses are available at a range of different levels – foundation, intermediate, academic and leadership – and are designed to outline the extensive principles of occupational hygiene as the basis for the anticipation, recognition, evaluation and control of hazards that can be encountered in the workplace.
Foundation Level Courses
The Basic Principles Course provides core knowledge for an individual to develop a career in occupational hygiene.
It also suitable for people who simply need a better understanding of occupational hygiene, such as doctors, nurses, safety professionals, engineers and managers.
RED OHMS Training runs this course as an in-house programme primarily for large companies or commercial organisations where a minimum booking for 10 people is required.
BOHS Assessment Courses
The British Occupational Hygiene Society (BOHS) is the chartered society for worker health protection. The BOHS vision is to create a healthy working environment for everyone by preventing exposure to hazardous substances in the workplace.
The BOHS is one of the leading awarding bodies in the occupational hygiene field. Their UK qualifications are recognised and respected by independent agencies such as the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) and the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS), and locally by the the AIOH.
Over 50,000 people have taken one of the BOHS qualifications through the BOHS network of training providers.
Intermediate Level Courses
The principal qualification at the Intermediate level is the International Occupational Hygiene Certificate (ICertOH). The ICertOH is accredited by the AIOH and provides the academic qualification that is required for Full Membership and COH.
This certificate demonstrates technical knowledge and practical skills in identifying health hazards, assessing occupational exposure and testing control measures. It is suitable for technicians who carry out measurements and testing in workplaces.
The qualification has been designed so that it can be recognised by national associations as contributing to their own requirements for accreditation.
