Cathy Chieng of the RED OHMS Group East Coast Hygiene Team has become a RESP-FIT Accredited Fit Tester in Quantitative Fit Testing, using the Ambient Aerosol Condensation Nuclei Counting (CNC) method.
RESP-FIT is the national respirator fit testing accreditation programme administered by the Australian Institute of Occupational Hygienists. Accreditation verifies a tester against a national competency standard, giving clients independent assurance that fit testing has been carried out correctly.
For clients on the East Coast, the accreditation means improved access to objective, accredited respirator fit testing without the delays that come with sourcing accredited testers from elsewhere. Respiratory protective equipment only protects a worker if it forms a seal on that particular face, which is why AS/NZS 1715 requires fit testing rather than assuming a correct fit.
